HBO has released the trailer for its new series Dune Prophecy. The series, which tells the story of the early days of the Bene Gesserit, will premiere in the fall.
The journey of Warner Bros.’ Dune series is moving to a whole new medium. HBO’s Dune: Prophecy trailertakes us deeper into the past. The final trailer has been released for the upcoming live-action spinoff series Prophecy, premiering this fall. Prophecy will be a female-focused prequel story that follows the early days of the Bene Gesserit, the secret coven that influences major events in the series.
New Dune: Prophecy Trailer Released
Dune: Prophecy, previously known as Dune: The Sisterhood, has undergone a number of creative changes since it was first announced in development in 2019. In 2023, it was reported that the series had lost star Shirley Henderson, as well as director Johan Renck, who directed the first two episodes. These exits follow the departure of showrunner Diane Ademu-John, who left the series just before production began in late November, and reportedly led to major rewrites. Finally, it was announced that both Dune: Prophecy and The Batman spinoff series The Penguin will air on HBO instead of exclusively on Max.
The Plot of Dune: Prophecy
Dune: Prophecy was previously described as being told through the eyes of a mysterious female order known as the Bene Gesserit. Possessing extraordinary abilities through their mastery of body and mind, the Bene Gesserit navigate the feudal politics and intrigues of the Empire as they pursue their own plans that will ultimately lead them to the enigmatic planet of Arrakis, known to its inhabitants as Dune. The cast also includes Emily Watson as Valya Harkonnen; Sarah-Sofie Boussnina as Princess Ynez; Shalom Brune Franklin as Mikaela; Faoileann Cunningham as Sister Jen; Aoife Hinds as Sister Emeline; Chloe Lea as Lila; Travis Fimmel as Desmond Hart; Mark Strong as Emperor Javicco Corrino; Jade Anouka as Sister Theodosia; and Chris Mason as Keiran Atreides.
“Oh, that’s ongoing, and I’m not allowed to say too much about it,” writer Jon Spaihts previously told The Playlist in an interview. “But that effort is alive and well. I stepped away from that project to not only work on Dune, but to work on another Part Two, but to explore other cinematic possibilities in the Dune universe, which we’re still talking about, and again, I’m not allowed to say too much about. But it’s a very rich world to play in, and I think it’s full of opportunities for storytelling in every way. They’re very far down the road, but I don’t know the specifics of the timing, frankly.”
