According to the Russian security service, the 33-year-old donated money to a charity that raised money for the armaments of the Ukrainian army.
In Yekaterinburg, Russia, the court has sentenced an American-Russian Ksenia Karelinan 12 years in prison for treason.
The former ballet dancer, 33, who lives in Los Angeles, was sentenced for donating around 50 euros to a New York-based Ukrainian charity in 2020. According to the Russian security service, the charity raised money for armaments for the Ukrainian army.
According to Karela’s lawyer, her boss did not know that the donated amount would support anti-Russian activities.
Karelina was arrested in February in Yekaterinburg, where she was visiting her family.
