DS Automobiles will be 100 percent electric from 2024

The transition to electric vehicles is not just a temporary trend; the inevitable future of the automotive industry. French premium brand DS Automobiles, operating under the umbrella of Stellantis, recently made an important announcement: Starting from 2024, every new DS model will be fully electric.

Originally, DS had set 2027 as the target year for its electric vehicle market-specific initiatives. However, they have now accelerated their electrification plans. It is worth noting that every DS model since 2019 has had an electric powertrain, giving them a significant advantage in this direction.

The first step in DS’s electric journey will be the launch of the DS 4, which includes a fully electric variant. Although specific details have not been revealed, there are indications that the DS 4 EV will be built on the EMP2 platform. In addition, DS plans to introduce a new design on the STLA Medium platform, marking Stellantis’ first electric venture on this new architecture.

The upcoming DS 4 EV is expected to feature a high-capacity battery with a capacity of 104 kWh and offer an impressive range of 700 kilometers. DS Automobiles aims to position this new EV as a technological powerhouse that embodies the sophistication and technical excellence that DS enthusiasts have come to expect.

Béatrice Foucher, CEO of DS Automobiles, emphasized the company’s commitment to offering a unique electric travel experience that combines technology, luxury and premium performance. Foucher also highlighted the developing opportunities in the electric vehicle market.

DS’s commitment to electric power extends beyond city streets. The brand plans to double its participation in Formula E and join the all-electric racing series by at least 2026. This commitment serves as a testing ground for DS, enabling the development of robust and efficient electric vehicles for wider consumer use.

In 2020, DS was recognized as Europe’s leading multi-energy brand and has the lowest average CO2 emissions on the continent. They demonstrated their commitment to sustainable mobility, with electric vehicles accounting for 30% of their registrations.

But DS’s electric ambitions don’t end there. Following the DS 4 EV launch, the company has more electric vehicles in the pipeline, including a model built on the STLA M/Medium platform. Although specific details are kept secret, DS hints that this vehicle will offer unparalleled technology and refinement. Production is planned to take place at Italy’s Melfi factory, and rumors suggest it could be a mid-size fastback. Additionally, DS is preparing to launch the successor to DS 7 in 2025.

Designed specifically for electric cars, crossovers and SUVs, this adaptable platform can accommodate models ranging from 4,300 mm to 4,900 mm with power outputs ranging from 215 hp to 382 hp. For those thirsty for adventure, “Performance” battery packs promise a range of more than 700 kilometers.
