American streamer OfficialDuckStudios has been banned from Twitch for using a crossbow during a live stream and injuring his cameraman.
How did that happen? During a live stream on Friday April 21, 2023, OfficialDuckStudios (ODS) was drinking alcohol with friends and cameraman “Joey”. The streamer came up with the idea of testing his functional crossbow.
After those present initially shot at a box, ODS asked the question, “Do you think the bolt can break through that door there?” The streamer’s chat answered the question with a resounding “yes,” but the streamer wanted to find out for himself .
Shortly thereafter, cameraman Joey went to the other side of the door into a small, dark closet filled with heaps of junk.
ODS then shot at the door, which the bolt penetrated without any problems and caught the cameraman in the hip area. They later showed the bleeding wound on camera.
An excerpt of the scene can be seen on Twitter:
Why exactly was he banned? Twitch’s Community Guidelines prohibit violence and the use of weapons. Additionally, depicting blood is banned because it can be “disturbing or upsetting” (via Twitch.TV).
Using the crossbow, injuring the cameraman and showing the bleeding wounds is therefore a violation of the platform’s guidelines.
Bolt pierces up to 7 doors
What happened next? On April 25, ODS responded to the incident with a video on YouTube.
The video starts with a clip from streamer moistcr1tikal jokingly suggesting that ODS should shoot through two doors next time. That’s exactly what he did and tested how many doors the bolt could penetrate.
The result shows how dangerous and negligent it was to put a person behind the door: the bolt went through seven doors and the eighth was scratched.
In general, streamers often take careless and dangerous actions, like setting off fireworks in a house:
