Drug addict surgeon had personal data on 300 patients lying at home

It was relatives who found the personal data and got in touch with the region, which has now sent in a report to the Swedish Privacy Agency (IMY).

“It’s about everything from personal data to names and the occasional journal document,” he says Stefan Santenoperations manager at Region Skåne, to SVT News Skåne.

Large amounts of heroin were found in the surgeon’s possession

The surgeon’s addiction was discovered when police raided his apartment and found large quantities of heroin. In questioning, the man, who is in his 30s, stated that he and his girlfriend smoked every day before the police intervention, and then went to work at Scania University Hospital in Lund.

The man was previously active as a surgeon in Region Dalarna, who will now be allowed access to material relating to patients’ personal data.
