Drove drunk at 170 – to hug the ex-wife

One night in July 2024, a frenzy took place in the municipality of Lekeberg outside Örebro. A 40-year-old man was driving a truck at 150-170 kilometers per hour on a stretch where the permitted speed was between 50-70 kilometers per hour. He had 1.01 per thousand of alcohol in his blood and he is said to have stated in questioning that he drank about ten strong beers before the car journey.

He tells in questioning that he combined the beer with the sleeping pill Benzo to relieve his anxiety, but that it only got worse. That’s when he got in the car to drive to his ex-wife and get a hug.

– I didn’t see any other options then but to go to the ex-wife, although it wasn’t very smart, he says in questioning.

Abrupt end to the car chase – crashed into trees and the police

The police reportedly had to follow the man for two kilometers before they caught him. Due to the winding road and the fact that it was dark outside, the police patrol stated that they had to slow down several times to avoid colliding with any oncoming cars or if someone walked out onto the road.

The car chase came to an abrupt end when the truck driver drove into the trees after a sharp curve and the police then collided with the part of the car that was left on the road.

The man now admits to the crimes he is charged with, gross negligence in traffic, gross drunk driving and violation of traffic regulations for not stopping when the police flashed at him. Earlier, the Örebro resident stated that he had not seen the police before they crashed into him.

He is now sentenced to two months in prison, Nerikes Allehanda reports.
