Drove across Estonia – the stars delivered again

The collaboration between Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyökeres is glowing.
Three goals were in two Nations League matches – more than confederation captain Jon Dahl Tomasson could hardly wish for.
– He is good at almost everything, says Gyökeres about Isak.

The new Swedish men’s national football team will be based on free-flowing attacking football, the kind that the audience gets carried away with.

The attacking duo of Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyökeres have taken hold of Danish national team captain Jon Dahl Tomasson’s ideas and visions.

In the Nations League opener away to Azerbaijan (3–1), Isak scored two goals, Gyökeres one. When Estonia was run over at the Strawberry arena in Solna on Sunday, 3-0 in the end, the goal distribution was the other way around.

Kulusevski adds

Especially in the first half, Isak and Gyökeres basically did what they wanted with the Estonian defenders. Add in an often brilliant Dejan Kulusevski just behind the two strikers, and you find much of the explanation for Sweden going into the break with a three-goal lead that could have been much bigger.

Sweden has fallen into the C division of the Nations League, with low-ranked opponents as a result. How the Isak/Gyökeres radar pair works against sharper nations remains to be seen. It is clear that they enjoy being together.

“Nose for the goal”

He is very smart. He gets into the right areas, you saw that above all in the last match (against Azerbaijan). He is fast, good with the ball, good at almost everything, says Gyökeres, who started the season at home to Sporting with seven goals in four games in the Portuguese league.

The appreciation is mutual.

Alexander Isak about Gyökeres:

Viktor is more physically strong and fast, but still good on the ball for that type of player. He is good at driving the ball, has a nose for goals, is a very good finisher and at positioning himself, says Isak.

Sweden’s Nations League adventure continues with away games against Slovakia and Estonia in October.
