An Italian warship has shot down a drone in the Red Sea. The drone was six kilometers from the Italian ship and was flying towards it when it was shot down, according to a statement from the Italian Defense Ministry.

Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi movement has in recent weeks attacked a number of ships in the Red Sea in solidarity with Hamas and war-torn Gaza.

In a statement late Saturday, the Huthi government’s deputy foreign minister, Hussein al-Ezzi, said attacks on ships in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea will continue until Israel stops attacks on the Gaza Strip.

The unrest in the area has forced several companies to reroute traffic on the commercially important waterway, driving up delivery times and costs.
