The city of Tjasiv Yar in eastern Ukraine is located on a hill and is therefore of strategic importance to both Russia and Ukraine. Should Russian forces capture Tjasiv Yar, it would allow them to seize higher ground and target their attacks on towns and communities further west, according to Ukrainian Pravda.
However, it is still controlled by Ukrainian forces. But new drone images show how the city has been reduced to rubble.
Before the war, the city had around 12,000 inhabitants – now it is said to be almost completely deserted. New drone images from the AP news agency show the devastation of the war in the city. Only a lone man is seen walking among the rubble.
Waiting for assistance
As attacks by Russian troops and drones intensify, forces on the ground are still waiting for new ammunition after the US recently approved a major military aid package, reports Ukrainian Pravda. And the situation on site is said to be very strained.
– I hope we will soon receive artillery shells, Oleh Shyriaiev, commander of Ukraine’s 225th separatist battalion fighting near Tjasiv Yar, told the newspaper. He believes it would help his unit maintain its positions.
