Londoner Wayne Dunn has been awarded the Governor General Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers for his contribution to the Forest City.
Dunn officially received the award Thursday, given to Canadian volunteers who improve their communities. Dunn is known for his role as the chair of the annual Business Cares Food Drive that supports the London Food Bank and is entering its 23rd edition this year.
To date, the campaign has collected 588,000 pounds of food, either in donations of goods or money.
“I’m very surprised, humbled, but very honoured,” Dunn said.
“And it’s really because of the big, great partnerships and team around me. . . In my heart, I’m sharing it with my family, my business partners and the community at large.
“It takes a lot of various people and partnerships to be able to do that,” Dunn said.
Besides the Business Cares Food Drive, Dunn is part of the Dunn with Cancer Research Foundation.
The foundation raises money to support brain tumor research. It was created in honor of Dunn’s daughter, Allison, who died after being diagnosed with glioblastoma.
