An alleged cannabis distribution scheme was nipped in the bud after an unusual traffic stop in Simcoe last week.
Norfolk County OPP say a driver attempted to avoid a RIDE check just after 1:30 am on May 12, but the evasion was short-lived as the driver turned down a dead-end street near the checkpoint at Norfolk Street North and Davis Street West .
Officers searched the car and found 2,000 cannabis plants.
The plants were “clones,” said acting Sgt. Ed Sanchuk, referring to cuttings from a full-grown cannabis plant that can be replanted.
That leafy cargo well exceeded the limit of four unflowering cannabis plants that can legally be distributed, and the 36-year-old was charged under the Cannabis Act.
A short date is pending.
