Three people were injured in a two-vehicle collision near Port Dover on Wednesday night.

The crash involving a van and SUV occurred at Highway 6 and St. John’s Road East.
The driver of the van suffered serious injuries and was transported to a trauma unit. The injuries are not considered life-threatening, said Norfolk OPP Const. Andrew Gamble.
The driver and a passenger in the SUV were taken to local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The driver of the SUV, a 46-year-old Haldimand County resident, is facing charges of causing bodily harm.
In a social media post, Gamble said collisions are becoming “far too common” at the intersection of Highway 6 and St. John’s Road East.
Emergency personnel responded to two collisions, one at around 6 am and the second at just after 8 pm, at the intersection on Wednesday, he said.

“The truth is neither of these incidents should have happened. (Wednesday’s) weather was absolutely beautiful with clear roads and perfect visibility,” Gamble said. “And whenever we report on crashes at this location, there is always a discussion about adding a stop light or roundabout. But ultimately, traffic safety comes down to personal responsibility. That is the mindset we need to adopt. You can’t control other drivers but you are always in control of how you drive.”
In June, a motorcyclist suffered serious injuries in a collision with a pickup truck at the intersection.
Last year, Norfolk County council supported a staff report to move forward with traffic control measures at two intersections along St. John’s Road.
Gamble stressed the importance of safe driving practices such as coming to a complete stop and proceeding when it is safe to do so.
“By taking a moment to look twice, you might just save a life.”
