The crash happened at about 6:20 am, police said, and drew a response from Oxford County firefighters and paramedics along with police.
Police said the lone occupant of one vehicle, a 59-year-old from the Southwestern Ontario community of Scotland, was pronounced dead at the scene. The lone occupant of the second passenger vehicle involved in the crash was taken to hospital with injuries that police deemed not life-threatening.
Ontario Provincial Police investigators asked that anyone with information regarding the crash, including dashboard-camera footage, contact them at 1-888-310-1122.
Domestic violence charges
A West Elgin resident is facing several charges after Ontario Provincial Police say a person assaulted their spouse with a weapon.
Around 10 pm on Nov. 23, Ontario Provincial Police officers in Elgin County were called to a home in West Elgin to investigate allegations of intimate partner violence, police said.
A 36-year-old from West Elgin is charged with assault on a spouse with a weapon, assault on a spouse and domestic mischief. Police said the victim’s physical injuries were not serious.
