Driver has close call with horse in road

A vehicle driver had a close call near Simcoe late Thursday night.

The driver was traveling down McDowell Road East at about 11:32 pm in poor visibility conditions due to heavy fog when they spotted a horse running in the middle of the road, said Norfolk OPP.

The driver stopped and called police.

Norfolk OPP officers arrived on the scene and moved the horse from the roadway.

A farm family housed the horse at their property on Hillcrest Road until its owners were located.

About an hour later, police located the owner who was reunited with the horse.

“The OPP would like to say thank you to the driver who immediately contacted police and to the family that assisted officers with transporting and housing the horse until the owner could be located. Their kindness, concern and immediate response was truly appreciated,” Inspector Jodi Kays, Norfolk OPP detachment commander, said in a media release.
