Driver dies after collision at racetrack in Haldimand

A driver was killed in a collision at a racetrack in Haldimand County on Saturday afternoon.

Haldimand OPP said the collision between two dragsters occurred at about 2:30 pm at Toronto Motorsports Park on Kohler Road near Cayuga.

One of the drivers, a 69-year-old resident of North York, died in hospital.

Race Cayuga Sportsmen Series identified the driver as Tony Positano.

“We are at a loss of words. Tony Positano was a true gentleman who loved racing and being part of so many racing families. Our thoughts and prayers are with Tony’s family during this difficult time. He was always trying to grow the sport and was always trying to get more people out racing. God Speed ​​Tony,” Race Cayuga posted on Facebook.

The other driver was not injured.

The National Hot Rod Association has taken over the investigation, said police.
