A man is facing an impaired driving charge after being stopped at a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) spot check in Chatham on Saturday.

Chatham-Kent police said the male driver was spoken to and found to be under the influence of alcohol, resulting in him being arrested and taken for breath tests.

The man was found to have a blood-alcohol level 1.5 times higher than the legal limit, which resulted in him being charged with operation while impaired/80-plus, police said.
He was released with a Dec. 11 short date.
“With the holiday season upon us we ask that the public to plan ahead and avoid driving while under the influence of alcohol,” police said. “If caught you risk your vehicle being impounded and an automatic driver’s license suspended.”
Several trailers broken into
Chatham-Kent police are seeking the public’s help as it investigates break-ins at the CM Wilson Conservation Area.

Police said several trailers were found to have been entered after a trailer owner was walking the area on Saturday.

Alarm sends people fleeing from building
An alarm alerted police to people being inside a new building under construction on Grand Avenue East early Sunday.
Police said the alarm triggered and prior to officers arriving, a citizen saw several people leaving the area.
The building was cleared by responding officers and it was determined nothing was taken, but there was damage to a window.
