Greenlandic tourism is on the rise and with the new international airport, opportunities are opened that have not existed before. Investments in tourism are seen as decisive for Greenland to get away from its financial dependence on Denmark.
“Storlsagen Nature”
Some who invest in the tourist wave are Casper Frank Møller, Isak Brandt Hansen and Rasmus Brandt, who returned to Greenland to run a business.
– Being able to show this magnificent nature to the outside world is linked to a lot of pride, says Casper Frank Møller, co -founder, Raw Arctic.
The tourist company started three years ago and Møller feels that they do not compete with other companies, but that everyone helps each other.
– When you look at the country, it is not so capitalist but the focus is on collaboration, cohabitation and lifting the entire society. This is also why tourism is doing so well in Greenland, he says.
In a rapidly growing nutrition, they want to set the framework for how to run a tourist company in Greenland together with the locals.
– It is all local operators who have helped to make it so good for us so we also want to become ambassadors for how business can look and how to do it in a nice way, says Møller.
“Shall work in the long run”
Greenland has received a lot of attention in recent years for most reasons. The melting glacier has made the outside world interested in mineral extraction on the island and Donald Trump has expressed security policy interests that have made Americans pilgrimage to the island.
– We are aiming for tourism to become a supporting industry for the economy in addition to potential mineral extraction and fishing, says Isak Brandt Hansen, co -founder of the company.
But there is a concern that a development of the country, according to Western models, does not necessarily take into account culture, language and demographics, something the company wants to focus on.
– We focus on nature preservation, cultural anchoring and sustainability, so it can work in the long run, says Møller.
