DRC a former rebel leader prosecuted for crimes against humanity

This is a step which opens the way to a trial, a first legal procedure opened on the basis of the UN Mapping report. Former Congolese warlord Roger Lumbala has been indicted for crimes against humanity committed between 2002 and 2003 in eastern DRC. Facts listed in the United Nations “Mapping report” which lists 617 crimes committed between 1993 and 2003 in the region. A long-time resident of France, Roger Lumbala was arrested in January 2021 following a preliminary investigation opened in 2016 by the French National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (PNAT).
