Dramatic resolution in the final round of the Singapore F1 race – George Russell crashed into the wall, Carlos Sainz won convincingly

Dramatic resolution in the final round of the Singapore F1

Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz started the race from the first grid and drove to victory in the Singapore F1 race. During the last laps, we saw a tight fight for the other top places.

Carlos Sainz convincingly dominated the Singapore Formula 1 race from the start and eventually won by about a second ahead of McLaren Lando Norris. The victory was the second of Sainz’s career. This season, his best finish before this was third in the previous race at Monza.

– An incredible feeling and an incredible weekend. I want to thank Ferrari for how we managed to turn the course and now we managed to win, Sainz smiled in an interview after the race.

The third place in the competition was driven by Mercedes Lewis Hamilton. The differences between the top three were really small, as Hamilton lost to Sainz by just over a second.

The most dramatic moment of the race was seen in the last lap, when Hamilton’s teammate George Russell ran into the wall from third place and had to stop.

Most of the race was run cleanly, even without exciting overtaking situations. Alpine driver by Esteban Ocon after the car froze at the beginning of the track after 40 laps, the virtual safety car was activated, bringing electricity to the race.

Both Mercedes drivers made pit stops, where they continued the race from fourth and fifth place. Russell’s gap in fourth place to the top was a good 13 seconds after the pit stop. After this, Russell and Hamilton drove really fast laps and closed the gap to the top.

Hamilton clocked the fastest lap of the race during the chase in the final laps.

The teammates caught Ferrari first Charles Leclerc. The British duo managed to catch Norris as well, but in the end Russell made a mistake and Hamilton failed to overtake Norris.

– The race became difficult when the Mercedes drivers came to the pit and put pressure. I actually hit the wall myself in the same spot on the last lap, so I think he was just chasing me, Norris said in a finish interview about Russell’s crash.

Leading the World Series Max Verstappen was only fifth, his worst finish of the season. Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez was only eighth, so Red Bull’s weekend was really quiet and difficult in the end.

Alfa Romeo Valtteri Bottas drove through the competition in rough spots. The tactics of Bottas, who started the race on hard tires, didn’t seem to work either and he ended up stopping the race at the end. In an interview with Viaplay, Bottas said that the car overheated, which is why he had to stop the race early.

The Ferraris got great starts

Leclerc started the race on soft tires, which paid off. He got past Russell at the start for second. The other top drivers started with medium tires.

Hamilton, who started from the fifth grid, drove the second corner wide on purpose, and benefited from this, as he got past his teammate Russel and Norris. However, after a few laps, Hamilton let the duo pass again.

Verstappen made an ascent during the first laps from the eleventh starting grid. In the seventh round, the Dutch champion had already risen to eighth. However, the Dutch champion, who started the race on hard tires, languished in eighth place until the first pit stops.

Perez was also in trouble in qualifying and the race didn’t start well. Perez fought the first laps in thirteenth place, but making the climb on the street circuit was difficult for the Red Bull driver.

During the first laps, the Ferrari drivers were only able to break a lead of a couple of seconds over Russel. The differences in the top ten in general were only in the order of a second or two.

On round 20 Logan Sargeant drove into a wall and smashed the front wing of his car. The safety car came onto the track, as Sargeant drove the entire length of the track before entering the pits and carbon fiber scrap came off the broken front wing onto the track.

After this, the safety car came to the track and several drivers made their pit stops. Verstappen took second, as the reigning world champion, who started on hard tires, did not pit. However, Verstappen quickly lost his position.

In the middle of the race, Verstappen complained in a stern tone to the team radio about how bad his car’s grip is. Neither of the Red Bull drivers could match the pace of the top drivers in Singapore.

Another Ferrari driver, Charles Leclerc, eventually fell to seventh in the pit circus, when he lost places even after the safety car left the track. This is how Leclerc did not reach the top fight in the end.

All in all, the time trial played a really big role in Singapore again, because it was really difficult to overtake in the race.
