Dramatic rescue mission for deer in Norrtälje

It was in the middle of central Norrtälje that the deer did not come out of the river when P4 Stockholm’s reporter went by and filmed.
Despite several attempts to get up, the animal needed help – so as not to drown.
– He probably froze a lot, says Fredrik Sköld, force leader at the rescue service in Norrtälje municipality.

It became a dramatic call in the middle of town when the rescue service received the alarm about the little deer that failed to get out of the water. The animal had repeatedly struggled to get up for the steep stairs by the river, but without results.

– We didn’t really know where to go. We had to help it on the pile, ”says Fredrik Sköld.

A great strength was in place to carry out the rescue operation. Equipped with dry suits, Fredrik Sköld and his colleagues were approaching the deer with the help of a raft.

– The animal had been in the water for a long time and was really cool. We have equipment that allows us to be in the water for a while, says Fredrik Sköld.

Rare rescue mission

To assist wildlife does not belong to the usual, although it sometimes happens.

– Usually we get alarms about domestic animals, like horses, but when it comes to wild animals in the middle of town, we are happy to show our good will and are happy to help, says Sköld.

Was offered apple pieces

After the rescue, the deer had to recover under a blanket and were offered apple pieces before it, still a little frozen but at a slow rising pace, moped off to the forest.

“In the worst case, he would probably have drowned if no one intervened,” says Sköld, who is happy that everything ended well this time.
