“2023 is one of the worst years in ages,” says Johan Zonneveld of industry consultancy Fruitconsult about the cherry harvest. Regionally there are small differences. “But in the Betuwe, where most cherry growers are located, the harvests are 50 to 60 percent lower.” Cherry grower Erik Vernooij of De Kersenhut from Cothen, with 16 hectares of cherry trees, also sees this. “My father has been in the business for 45 years and has never experienced this before.”
