At 12:30 on Saturday, two passers-by saw a dog standing on an ice floe in the Sangi River between Kalix and Haparanda.
Right now, the river is breaking ice and the ice floe was two to three meters from shore. The emergency services went to the scene and a firefighter had to put on a dry suit and get out to the ice floe.
– The dog was quite shy. We had to lure it. It took a quarter of an hour before we could connect it, says Niklas Berggren, force leader at the rescue service in Kalix.
The dog could then be transported home to its owner.
– It ended happily this time, says Niklas Berggren.
