Dragon’s Dogma 2 suddenly has microtransactions after launch

Just in time for the launch of one of the most anticipated role-playing games of the year, there is a damper on the anticipation of many RPG fans. With the launch of Dragon’s Dogma 2, Capcom introduced a series of paid DLC to the public for the first time. We’ll tell you what the developers want more money for.

What is the problem? On the night of March 21st to 22nd, 2024, Dragon’s Dogma 2, one of the most anticipated role-playing games of the year, was released. The price for the fun? On Steam you have to invest a mere 65 euros for the normal and 75 euros for the deluxe edition.

Capcom officials did not communicate any further editions to the public in the run-up to the launch. However, there was a review guide for all testers in which the planned DLCs were broken down. The information was under embargo until March 20, 2024.

And it is precisely these DLCs that will be available to all players for the first time with the release of Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Dragon’s Dogma 2’s gameplay received high praise in testing:

How does the community react? Many players are angry and disappointed. Finally, some of the DLCs noticeably increase comfort. In addition, items such as target crystals are very rarely found in the game.

  • Mokadelic writes on Reddit: “The [meisten der Sachen] I don’t care, but the fact that they put extra fast travel crystals behind the paywall is pretty damn shabby.”
  • Killu announces the direct consequence on Steam: “A single-player game where you have to pay for character changes? Good luck, have fun. Enjoy my refund.”
  • Some players like GxyBrainbuster also note on Reddit: “That was already the case in the first part”.
  • One look at Steam is enough to see that most of the community is critical of this type of communication and monetization. Dragon’s Dogma 2 gets a “mostly negative” rating from the first 5,500+ reviews – only 39 percent of the reviews so far are positive.
