Dragon’s Dogma 2 shows off its complex character editor

With Dragon’s Dogma 2 we will soon have the sequel to a popular role-playing game for Steam and PS5. The developers are now showing the complex character editor in a video.

What role play is it? Dragon’s Dogma 2 is an upcoming game from developer Capcom. It is the sequel to the first part published in 2012. Again we play a self-created character from the third-person view. The combat system is direct and action-packed. A special feature of the game is to climb the bosses, some of which are as high as a house, during the fights.

The game will be released in March. In a video from IGN, the developers around game director Hideaki Itsuno introduced the game’s character editor.

While the editor of the first part already allowed detailed settings, Capcom takes it further in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Above all, the better hardware of current PCs and consoles enables a complex editor with countless setting options.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be more expensive than previous Capcom games. Read here what it’s all about.

The editor leaves plenty of room for creativity

What can you do in the editor? According to the developers and the video material shown from character creation, you can really have fun in the editor to your heart’s content.

The game director of the game emphasizes that it was a challenge to design the editor in detail but at the same time keep it easy to use. It must be possible to implement one’s own ideas without being an artist.

If creating your own character isn’t important to you, you can save yourself the work. For such players, Dragon’s Dogma 2 offers a simplified way of character creation.

There are two body types per race, and nine prefabricated bodies per body type. There are many ready-made heads from which you can choose one. If you still want to change small things, that can be done easily.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 also introduces a new playable race. The so-called “Beastren” are hairy creatures that are reminiscent of the cat-like Khajiit from The Elder Scrolls.

The editor overwhelms the Twitch streamer Asmongold

How does Asmongold find the editor? The streamer responded to IGN’s post in a video. He noted that in role-playing games like Dragon’s Dogma he only ever recreates himself. That’s why most of his characters are human, male, white, wear long hair and fight as knights.

The streamer reacted cautiously to the countless setting options in Dragon’s Dogma 2’s character editor. Given the 40 different types of muscles discussed in the video, Asmongold says: “I’ll stay away from that.”

Do you usually spend a lot of time creating characters in an RPG? Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be released on March 22, 2024 for PC (Steam) and PS5. MeinMMO author Max Handwerk has already played the game. You can read his impressions here.
