An elderly man was going on an errand with the car and thought his dog was inside the vehicle. But the dog was connected to the towbar, and was dragged along behind the car for almost 500 meters.

The man stopped when he realized the dog was not inside the tailgate. But then the animal was so badly injured that it had to be euthanized.

Now the man is sentenced to pay a 30-day fine for violating the Animal Protection Act, reports P4 Jönköping.

The dog owner claims that what happened was a mistake. He does not confess to the crime, but accepts his punishment.
