The Court of Appeal changes the sentence for a man who was sentenced to forensic psychiatric care after dragging a dog after a car, reports SVT Norrbotten.

It was in February that witnesses in Kiruna saw a car driving with a dog tied to one of the back doors.

There were traces of blood in the snow and the dog had to be euthanized because it was so badly injured. Among other things, it was hyperventilating so that the heart could not be heard, the footpads were loose on all paws and the claws were gone.

The two men in the car denied wrongdoing and said it was all an accident. One of them received a suspended sentence, the other was sentenced to forensic psychiatric care. The latter appealed and has now had his sentence changed.

The Court of Appeal states that he did not intend to harm the dog, but that the crime was committed out of gross negligence. Instead of forensic psychiatric care, the man is sentenced to pay daily fines totaling SEK 7,000.
