According to the tweet, Johson died at home on Monday, November 21. Johnson was 75 years old when he died.

Johnson was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2013 and was given ten months to live. In 2014, the tumor was surgically removed, and he recovered.

Johnson was known for his personal playing style and fierce stage presence. Johnson formed the singer Lee Brilleaux with the core group in the Dr. Feelgood band playing rhythm and blues rock. In the mid-1970s, Dr. Feelgood paved the way for punk bands like the Sex Pistols and the Clash.

In 2011–2012, Johnson had a four-episode supporting role in Game of Thrones, playing the executioner Ilyn Payne. This was the only acting performance of his career.
