    Author of the best-seller Good Inside, “Attentive Parents” in French, Dr Becky Kennedy is one of the favorite psychologists of American stars. What method does she recommend for a happy family life? Doctissimo reveals its formula for peaceful education.

    Children’s education has never sold so much. Books, podcasts, advice and tips on social networks… In front of parents who are exhausted and sometimes helpless when faced with the different behaviors of their children; many professionals (child psychiatrist, psychologists, etc.) also provide their recommendations for being a “better parent”. Author of the bestseller Good Inside, Dr Becky Kennedy is THE star psychologist across the Atlantic. What does this mother of three advocate? Doctissimo tells you everything.

    Naturally caring parents and children

    Here there are no injunctions to different methods of positive education, nor even recourse to punishment; Dr. Becky Kennedy simply states that parents and children are naturally “good on the inside.” According to her, if “Raising a child is the most difficult, exhausting, but also rewarding task, the most important work one can accomplish in life. she kindly supports and reassures parents “mistakes, trial and error and obstacles are part of the journey.” Thus, according to the psychologist, the essential part of education would be based on teaching children to manage their emotions as well as life’s challenges while trusting them. To achieve this, there is no miracle recipe but two essential “recommendations” according to the expert:

    • Do not be afraid of children’s emotions, whether positive or negative. Indeed, these are part of life and are specific to human beings. Feeling emotions is normal;
    • Did you break down? At the end of your tether, you shouted at your children? According to Dr. Becky, adults don’t have superpowers that would allow them to stay zen at all times. She then recommends explaining to her child why we broke down and trying to find a solution to react differently the next time.

    Support, an essential element for a more peaceful education

    According to the expert, “Raising children is the most difficult, exhausting, rewarding and important job in the world. And yet, this job comes with no training…no manual. We’re just supposed to find out. Why do we have to do the hardest job in the world without support? Think about it: athletes have coaches, trainers and sports psychologists. Business leaders have executive coaches and entire teams of consultants. For what ? These are “jobs” that our society values - and when we value a job, we provide people with support, education, and resources to improve“. Dr Becky’s credo? “Become the parent you want to be”. For this, you should not hesitate to find support from professionals such as a psychologist or other childhood professionals. She adds “Remember: Parenting is hard because it’s hard“.
