SOEST – Dozens of Soesters are conducting a silent protest tonight at the town hall in Soest because of the possible construction of temporary housing units on a meadow on Insingerstraat. Three hundred to seven hundred Ukrainians could be accommodated on the 1.5-hectare patch of greenery for a period of five to ten years, but the neighborhood fears too much pressure on the district. “The neighborhood is for the reception of Ukrainians,” emphasizes Bert Weiland, who overlooks the piece of meadow. “But 700 refugees make up 10 percent of the district. We don’t think that’s right.”
