Turkish-backed forces and Kurds clash in the Manbij region in northern Syria.
Fighting between Turkish-backed forces and SDF Kurdish forces left 37 dead in the northern Manbij region on Thursday, according to the monitoring organization The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
According to the monitoring organization, most of those killed are from the ranks of Turkish-backed forces, but there are also SDF fighters and civilians. According to the organization, more than 300 people have died in the area since last month.
Turkish-backed forces resumed attacks against the SDF at the end of November, at the same time as Islamist forces made gains against the Syrian government.
The United States has sought to calm Turkey’s concerns after the Syrian regime change so that it would not expand operations against the Kurds.
The SDF receives support from the United States. Its leadership has met with the new Syrian regime and has asked it to intervene in the situation so that the achieved ceasefire would apply to all of Syria.
