Downtown Paris to be transformed for film project

Residents and visitors to Paris will notice changes to the downtown next week as a crew will transform storefronts in preparation for a film project.

The County of Brant announced Thursday that parking restrictions and travel disruptions for motorists will occur from May 6 through to May 10.

Filming is set to take place on Thursday, May 9 when Grand River Street North will be closed between William and Mechanic Streets from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. Intermittent traffic control will be in place starting between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on the William Street bridge and at the intersection of William and Grand River Street North.

A drone may be used for filming downtown between noon and midnight on May 9.

There will also be intermittent control for people wishing to use the Paris Lions Park pedestrian bridge, as some filming will take place at the park’s south end.

Some municipal parking lots will be limited or closed, and street parking will be closed in areas where traffic cones are in place.

Street dressing for the film project will take place from Monday, May 6 to Wednesday, May 8 between 7 am and 6 pm, with teardown to be completed by May 10 at 6 pm

Noticeable changes to the downtown include American flags flying at the Paris Cenotaph with permission of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 29.

The facade of the County of Brant offices will also be changed for filming but will remain open as will all downtown businesses.

The County will provide notices to businesses and residents in the impacted areas, and stated that locations, dates, and times may change due to weather and other factors.
