Pandemic, war in Ukraine, economic crisis… We can’t say that times are the most joyful, impacting everyone’s well-being and mental health. A good reason to try daily to boost your production of dopamine, the pleasure hormone, through diet, sport, meditation, but also makeup. Having gone viral on social networks, ‘dopamine beauty’ consists of displaying colorful make-up to simply be… happy.

What if blush was the solution to all your problems? It’s probably a bit exaggerated, we grant it, but makeup could still play on your morale. If the profusion of natural and authentic beauty treatments observed since the start of the pandemic is necessarily good, if only in terms of assertiveness, it also lacks a bit of fantasy. And it is precisely the color that could offer a boost to morale – it needs it – by boosting the production of dopamine, one of the hormones of well-being. If getting better only takes a few brush strokes, we sign right away!

    What is dopamine?

According to the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), dopamine is a “chemical substance used as a neurotransmitter that produces a state of satisfaction”. If the lack of dopamine can be the cause of a drop in motivation, mood changes, or even significant fatigue, it is possible to naturally boost its production thanks to certain foods rich in tyrosine, such as avocado. , bananas, and of course chocolate, the practice of physical activity, exposure to the sun, or certain activities such as music or even the simple fact of stroking an animal. But chromatherapy – the color cure – would also promote happiness; hence the ‘dopamine beauty’, which can also be found under the terms ‘dopamine makeup’, which has invaded social networks in recent weeks.

    Make-up, this unexpected well-being ally

Just type the hashtags #dopaminebeauty and #dopaminemakeup on TikTok to discover a veritable profusion of colors. Rainbow or two-tone eye shadows, available in bold shades, multicolored eyeliner, and glitter galore, seem to have invaded the social network for a good cause. The idea? Indulge in all the possible and imaginable fantasies, within reason, with vibrant colors, temporary tattoos, stickers… In short, we have fun. What better than the summer season to demonstrate inventiveness, fantasy, and eccentricity?

And for the less daring, it can simply be a question of increasing the doses of make-up, whether it’s blush, lipstick or gloss, or even showing a touch of fantasy. You don’t have to go as far as fluorescent eye shadow, but can bet on a line of colored eyeliner, a gourmet mouth, or even play the card of ultra flashy nail polish to divert attention from your hands. On the Chinese social network, we also find the hashtag “dopamine nails”, which therefore consists in using shades full of pep on the nails to feel better. If with that, you don’t boost your morale for the start of the school year…
