The far-right candidates do not seem to be making it to the second round.
In Romania, the pro-EU prime minister representing the Social Democrats Marcel Ciolacu is in the lead in the first round of the country’s presidential elections according to door-to-door polls.
According to door-to-door polls, he would be getting 25 percent of the vote. The second is a centre-right liberal Elena Lasconi with an 18 percent vote share.
After them, two far-right candidates with 15–16 percent vote shares are quite level, an independent candidate who resigned from the far-right AUR party Calin Georgescu and chairman of AUR George Simionsays Politico.
Based on the door-to-door survey, it seems that the far-right is not reaching the electoral success predicted for it in the polls and in the media. Simion was even predicted to take second place in the first round.
Known as a fiery speaker, Simion has, among other things, confessed to being the future president of the United States Donald Trump’s as an admirer. Simion also opposes military aid to Ukraine and has criticized the EU leadership in harsh words. However, he has said Politico according to that he does not support Romania leaving the EU.

Romania has suffered, among other things, from economic problems. Politico however, election campaigning was characterized more by candidates’ personal attacks against each other than issue campaigning.
The second round of the presidential election will be held on December 8.
Romania will also vote in the parliamentary elections at the beginning of December. The far-right has been promised success in them.
