Today, the trial continued in Lund District Court against the man and woman who are suspected of having poisoned and abused their six-year-old daughter. On Monday morning, a video interview with the girl was recorded in the courtroom.

The girl told how she was forced to sit naked, tied up in the family’s laundry room. She froze a lot and asked her father several times for clothes.

Earlier in the morning, the girl told about the time when the family lived in another house. Then she was locked in a bare room with only a bed without bedding.

Found the girl’s blood on the walls

The interrogation goes well until the interrogator asks about stains on the walls. Stains that are the girl’s own blood. Then the girl reacts strongly:

    – I do not want to talk about it. No!

Trying to touch the subject again, the interrogator says in a soft voice:

    – We can see that it is your blood. How does your blood get there?

But here it stops. The girl makes it clear that she does not want to talk about her injuries or why there is blood on the walls in her room.

After a while, the girl clarifies that she is afraid:

    – I do not like it. It’s scary to me.

    Torture-like abuse

The parents are charged with extremely serious assault, three cases of aggravated assault, two cases of illegal deprivation of liberty and serious breach of peace. According to the indictment, they abused her in torture-like ways, forced her to drink vinegar and had her tied in a car seat.

In an interrogation, the interrogator has brought a child car seat. The interrogator asks the girl how she was bound.

    – I do not want to talk about it. Every time I talk about it, I get sad.

    Shows how she was tied

The girl suggests that she should show. Then she shows how her arms were tied together with a strap from the car seat. The interrogator asks who decided that.

    – Mother decided it. Because she thought I smelled disgusting.

How tight was the rope around the legs?

    – Hard, says the girl

When the interrogator brings the conversation to the mother and father, the girl makes it clear that she does not want to meet them.

    – They have already hurt me. I don’t want to live with them. They have beaten me and locked me up and put me down, she says.

    “Mother has lied to me”

Everything was discovered on the night of Christmas Eve 2022 when the girl came into the emergency room. By then she was dying and her stomach was so destroyed by vinegar that it had to be surgically removed.

The parents deny any wrongdoing and believe that the girl drank the vinegar herself. But that’s a version the police don’t believe.

Police suspect the parents told the girl not to talk to police about how she ingested the vinegar.

This is also indicated by things she says in the interrogation.

    – Mother has lied to me that the police take children. I don’t like it when they joke like that, says the girl.

The interrogator tries to explain to the girl that she does not need to be afraid of her parents. She illustrates it by bringing along little toy men. Two of them get to represent the girl’s mother and father. The old men are placed in their own jar with a lid on. The interrogator explains that the parents are in custody separately.

The girl wonders if they get food. Yes, they will, the interrogator explains.

The girl is worried about how things will go for her siblings.

    – You must not take my siblings. You can take mom and dad but not my siblings, she says.

The girl’s mother and father sit completely still and silent when the video interrogation is played. The trial against the parents continues into January.

FACTS The parents are accused of:

Extremely serious abuse. By forcing the daughter to drink vinegar between 23 December 2022 and 24 December 2022.

Unlawful deprivation of liberty 1. That at least between December 1, 2022 and December 24, 2022, they occasionally kept the daughter confined in the laundry room, tied in a car seat.

Serious assault *3. That they exposed the girl to starvation or at least severe malnutrition by not giving her enough food and drink. They are also accused of having caused the daughter several severe wounds by wearing a diaper, even though she was not of diaper age, which they did not change.

Serious breach of the peace. For all the times the girl has been injured, including broken arms, and they have not sought care.
