Irritable bowel syndrome is a disease that causes abdominal pain and bloating in the community. Also known as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), irritable bowel syndrome or spastic colon. This syndrome, which greatly affects the quality of life, leads to negative situations in daily life. Specialist Dr. Erdi Şeker made statements about irritable bowel syndrome.
SEEN MORE IN WOMEN
Talking about irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Specialist Dr. Erdi Sugar; “IBS, known among the people as irritable bowel, irritable bowel disease is an important disease. It is a disease that we focus on both because of the quality of life of the person and because it constitutes a large part of the applications made to our polyclinic. It is a female-dominated disease and two-thirds are female. Its prevalence in the population varies between 10-15%. In fact, in studies conducted in our country, figures reaching up to 20 percent have been seen”.
SYMPTOM SYMPTOMS OF IRROUS BOTH
Referring to the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, Şeker said, “Symptoms of the disease include abdominal pain. There is a pain that starts especially in the lower parts of the abdomen and spreads to the entire abdomen. In addition, there are complaints such as bloating, gas, belching, stomach pain. It is a functional disease. IBS should not be confused with inflammatory bowel diseases. “Inflammatory bowel disease is a structural disease and is a more serious disease with very different symptoms.”
THE MOST IMPORTANT CAUSE AFFECTING THE DISEASE LIFE STYLE
Talking about the ways to cope with the disease and its treatment, Şeker said, “The important thing in the disease is to cope with stress. Because the most important cause of the disease is life style, stress and trauma that the person is exposed to in his life. At this point we must manage IBS. We must not let IBS rule us. This is what treatment is for. The first is lifestyle change and diet. If we cannot cope with these, if there are more serious problems, if the person has psychosocial factors, we contact disciplines such as psychiatry, we are in a multidisciplinary department.
CAUSE OF THE DISEASE IS NOT EXACTLY CLEAR
If it cannot be controlled with all these, then there are some treatments. The most important point that the patient should pay attention to in these treatments is to see a gastroenterologist. The cause of this disease is not clear, we rearrange the treatments by trial and error method. If the patient is under our follow-up, we try a treatment and if it does not help, we apply another treatment method. We will continue in this way.”
