However, it’s estimated that 90 percent of people will experience back pain at some point in their lives. Experts emphasize that there are three foods that trigger back pain. Gluten-based, sugary, and fatty foods have been suggested to be the biggest culprits for causing back pain.

There are many factors that trigger back pain. But one of the most overlooked is diet.

The findings of a 2020 study published in the journal Medical Hypotheses highlighted the harm gluten does to our backs.

The study started from the understanding that gluten sensitivity is associated with chronic low back pain and that a gluten-free diet has therapeutic effects on such patients. The study focused specifically on low back pain related to spondyloarthritis, which has been linked to gut health. Spondyloarthritis is a group of diseases caused by inflammation in the spine and joints, hind arms and legs. According to the findings, the gluten-free diet improved back pain by 80 percent.

Similar to gluten, sugar also triggers back pain. Sugar consumption can also lead to weight gain, which increases the weight load and causes pain in the back joints. Being overweight is actually one of the common causes of back pain, especially in the lower back.

The main cause of inflammation in the gallbladder, a pear-shaped organ under the liver, is fatty foods. The gallbladder releases bile, which helps the body break down and digest fats. When the gallbladder is faced with excess fat, it is attacked which causes it to become inflamed. This pain is usually concentrated in the upper abdomen, but some can cause back pain.
