The Japanese gaming company Sega (Sonic) is not joking when it comes to protecting its work. The company explains in a statement how seriously it takes the protection of its employees. It is prepared to take appropriate measures if boundaries are crossed, including legal action.
That was the problem: A Sega employee was harassed so much and for so long that he was unable to work. Sega says:
Sega forces harassers to pay damages and delete everything
This is what Sega did: The company obtained the harasser’s data with the consent of the court and took legal action against him.
An agreement would have been reached with the harasser that would ensure that the employee receives compensation and that the harasser must delete all derogatory and offensive comments and stop the behavior in the future.
Sega says that while they appreciate feedback and sometimes even harsh comments, such insults against employees clearly go too far.
Don’t mess with Sega
This is what Sega announces: The company says it will continue to take “appropriate action” if employees’ human rights are violated.
In the end, this means that anyone who messes with Sonic or his friends can expect to have to explain themselves in court.
Destiny developer Bungie also has a similarly strict policy against harassment and threats. We even know the exact amount of damages that were imposed when someone used completely inappropriate language towards a developer: Destiny 2 wins $400,000 lawsuit against man who threatened employees – expert explains why this is so important
