The Minister for Foreign Affairs: Sweden supports the ICC’s work
Sweden supports the work and independence of the ICC, announced Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M) when the court issued an arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The United States rejects the court’s decision in its entirety.
“The arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court is the court’s independent decision. Sweden and the EU support the important work of the court and protect its independence and integrity”, announces Foreign Minister Malmer Stenergard in a short written comment, in which she does not value the decision as such.
The ICC, based in The Hague, Netherlands, has also issued an arrest warrant against Israel’s former defense minister, Yoav Gallant, as well as against Hamas leader Mohammad Dayf, whom Israel previously claimed to have killed.
The arrest warrant means – like the one previously issued for Russian President Vladimir Putin – that the 120 countries that are part of the ICC cooperation and have ratified the so-called Rome Statute must arrest the Prime Minister of Israel if he arrives there.

In total, the equivalent of SEK 1,480 billion will be spent on Russia’s armed forces and the war in Ukraine next year – an increase from an already record high level.
The proposal must also be considered by the Russian upper house, a formality, before being signed by President Vladimir Putin.

The king on the climate meeting: It is going too slowly
As the UN climate meeting enters its final sprint, there is great disappointment from many quarters. King Carl Gustaf says he hopes the world leaders persevere in the discussions.
King Carl Gustaf is on a state visit to Singapore and finds it worrying that no agreement was reached in the climate negotiations at COP29 in Baku.
– Progress is slow in these matters, but it is far too slow, he tells TT.
The biggest stumbling block in this year’s climate negotiations concerns how much money the world’s rich countries are prepared to invest annually to support developing countries. The target is a new sum but when a first draft was presented on Thursday morning there was none at all. This indicates a large gap between the countries.
The developing countries say they need around 1,400 billion dollars – Show more

Doctors Without Borders halts operations in Haiti
Doctors Without Borders has suspended its operations in Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince.
The reason is that police forces have threatened the staff, the organization writes in a press release.
“Police officers have stopped MSF’s vehicles several times and directly threatened staff, including death and rape threats. This has taken place during the week following an attack on one of our ambulances on November 11 in which at least two patients were executed and our staff were physically injured,” they write.
