Sweden kicked the USA out of the 2023 World Cup.
Now comes enormous criticism from ex-president Donald Trump.
“They end up in hell!”, writes a very annoyed Trump on social media.
Sunday morning offered a highly dramatic World Cup round of 16 final between Sweden and the USA in Australia. After 120 minutes of 0-0 and great play from the Swedish goalkeeper Zecira Musovic everything was decided with a very exciting penalty shootout.
Sweden’s victory
The Swedes were ultimately victorious after settling with a VAR assessment on the last penalty from Lina Hurtig. Millions of Swedes followed the match with enormous nervousness and a big blue-yellow cheer broke out when it was clear that Sweden had advanced to the World Cup quarter-finals.

While the disappointment was total throughout the United States. Another who followed the match was the nation’s former president Donald Trump – and he was not at all happy with what he saw. After Sweden sent the USA out of the world championship, the big star has Megan Rapinoe endured harsh criticism after she missed her punishment and then laughed it off.

Trump’s attack
Now comes new harsh criticism from Trump, who previously had his quarrels with Rapinoe over the years. The ex-president writes on his own social media platform Truth Social that the US’s loss is “symbolic of how the US has become during Joe Biden’s time as president”.

He singles out Rapinoe in particular as a scapegoat.
“Many of our players were openly critical of the United States – no other country behaved in that way. Not even close. Woke culture equals failure. Good shot Megan, the USA is going to hell!”, Trump writes and ends the post with his well-known words “Make America great again”.

During the championship, several of the USA’s national team players have chosen to be silent during the national anthem as a clear stance against their own country. For the Swedish part, next Japan awaits here in the World Cup quarter-finals on Friday morning.
