Donald Trump pulls away from Joe Biden in NBC’s latest poll.
The lead is now bigger than ever.
The poll also reveals what it takes for Biden to win.
With nine months until the presidential election published NBC News new opinion figures on Sunday. Donald Trump gets 47 percent support, while Joe Biden stays at 42 percent.
Trump thereby extends his advantage from the corresponding survey in November, when he got 46 percent against Biden’s 44.
– This is the largest lead Donald Trump has had over Joe Biden in any of NBC’s 16 polls since 2019, says the television channel’s political reporter Steve Kornacki in the program “Meet the press”.
The same trend in several places
The November poll from NBC marked a shift. In September, the score was 46–46, and in July, Biden led 49–45.
Sunday’s figures are based on interviews with 1,000 people between 26 and 30 January. Trump’s lead is certainly within the margin of error, but other recent polls confirm the picture that he has a tailwind.

In CNN’s latest poll, he leads 49-45 and in Yahoo News the position is 45-44. Biden does lead 50-44 at Quinnipac, but the average value of the last weeks’ voter barometers gives Trump 46.7 percent to 44.6 for Biden.
Record low confidence
The NBC survey also reveals that voter confidence in the sitting president is at rock bottom levels. Only 37 percent of the respondents think that Biden is “doing a good job”.
It is his lowest number to date and the worst for a president since George W Bush’s second term more than 15 years ago.
– To put it in context, Bush did not run for re-election during his second term, says NBC’s Steve Kornacki.
– If we look at presidents who stood for re-election, we see that Bush was over 50 percent. He won. Obama was almost at 50 percent. He won. Trump four years ago got 46 percent. He lost.
Straw for Biden
The details of the NBC poll show that Trump has a lead of more than 20 percentage points when respondents answer who can best manage the economy.

On the burning issue of immigration and border enforcement, his lead is more than 30 percentage points.
Trump also has a 16 percentage point lead when voters judge who is most “competent and effective” – and a 23 percentage point advantage in the view of “mental and physical health to be president”.
Biden, on the other hand, leads by 12 percentage points on the abortion issue and has a two percentage point margin against Trump when the topic is about “protecting democracy”.
But when it comes to the overarching and crucial question — who will be president — there is a glimmer of hope for Joe Biden in NBC’s poll.
When participants were asked who they would vote for if Trump is convicted of a felony before the election, Biden leads 45-43.
