China pledges to support WHO after US withdrawal
China pledged Tuesday to support the World Health Organization, after US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday to withdraw the United States from it. “The role of the WHO must be strengthened, not weakened,” underlined the spokesperson for Chinese diplomacy, Guo Jiakun, adding that “China, as it has always done, will support the WHO in the accomplishment of its missions” to promote “the health of humanity”.
China also said it was “worried” about the United States’ new exit from the Paris climate agreement. “Climate change is a common challenge facing all humanity, and no country can remain indifferent or solve the problem alone,” Guo Jiakun also said.
