Donald Trump dropped by his accountants for unreliable financial statements

The accounting firm of the former American president announces that he is letting go of his client with whom he has been collaborating for almost 10 years.

Mazars Group informed the Trump Organization in a letter this week that it would no longer work for it. The company is being investigated by New York District Attorney Letitia James for possible tax evasion. She is suspected of having overestimated the value of certain properties to apply for bank loans, and of having at the same time underestimated the value with the tax authorities to pay less taxes. Donald Trump, who is not personally targeted, rejects these accusations. For the former president, the investigation obeys political objectives.

The decision of the accounting firm to separate from its illustrious client is based on the revelations of the prosecutor, but also on the results of an internal investigation. Mazars believes that the tax declarations in question, from 2011 to 2020, are not inaccurate, but that they are not therefore reliable. A conclusion which in any case gives additional arguments to the prosecutor Letitia James and to her investigation.

In a statement late Monday, the Trump Organization expressed its “ disappointment » after the decision of the Mazars group. But these legal troubles could complicate a possible second race to the White House. The 75-year-old billionaire leaves doubts about his intention to run again, or not, for the Republican nomination.
