Former US President Donald Trump is accused of rape. In his defence, he has claimed that the woman who accuses him of rape is not his type – yet he mistakes her for his then-wife in a photo shown at the trial.
– Amazing, says Marcus Oscarsson.
It was in 2019 that former Elle columnist E Jean Carroll came out and accused Donald Trump of raping her. The incident must have taken place around the turn of the year 1995–1996. According to Carroll, Trump raped her in a fitting room at the Bergdorf Goodman department store in Manhattan.
“Big headlines in the US”
Trump denies this and has used as an argument that Carroll is not his type. But the fact that he now believed on Thursday that a picture of Jean Carroll represented his ex-wife Marla Maples, Carroll’s lawyers believe, undermines that argument.
– He claims that it is his wife, Marla Maples, to whom he was then married. At the same time, he says several times that he does not recognize this woman at all – to whom he was married for 13 years and who is the mother of three of his children! It will be quite difficult to run the card that Biden is confused when he does not recognize his wife! This gets big headlines in the US, says Marcus Oscarsson.
The voters don’t seem to care
This will of course continue in the presidential election, says Oscarsson, but the question is whether this affects Donald Trump at all?
– No, his voters don’t seem to care about this. But if he is convicted, there could be bigger problems, of course, says Marcus Oscarsson in Nyhetsmorgon.
Trump has also commented on the attention-grabbing video where, believing that the microphone is turned off, he comments on what he as a celebrity can do with women: “When you’re a star, they let you do it. What you want. Get them in the pussy,” he said in a 2005 recording.
– Historically, that’s true for stars, says Trump.
