    Feminicides are still far too numerous each year in France. To fight against the scourge of violence against women, the government wishes to set up a six-month parliamentary mission to improve the judicial response and announces the establishment of a new start pack from 2023.

    In 2021, not less than 122 women died under the blows of their spouses. Since January 2022, there have already been 79 feminicides, according to the Ministry of the Interior, in a report published this summer. Figures that send shivers down your spine.

    Go beyond the complaint

    Difficult to break, the circle of domestic violence gradually tightens on the victim over time, until death for some of them. The government, which has been working on the subject for several months, recalls through the voice of the Minister Delegate for Equality between Women and Men, Isabelle Rome, that ” these cases must be judged in a specific way “. For the spokesperson for the France victims network, Olivia Mons, “ it’s a good thing the government is going beyond the complaint aspect “.

    A “fresh start” pack for victims

    Indeed, the consequences following the departure of a victim of domestic violence are just as important as the first step taken to leave his executioner and file a complaint against him. “ It is necessary to support these women on all aspects on which their decision will impact their lives: housing, work, finances…. insists Olivia Mons.

    This is precisely the objective of this “new start” pack. Offer a new start to these victims by providing them with assistance on different levels, “a kind of one-stop shop, experienced in several sites, to provide all the necessary support to victims” in order to leave their violent spouse. This pack would be based on:

    • the mobilization of social assistance;
    • access to training;
    • assistance in returning to work;
    • emergency accommodation;
    • and psychological support.

    Reinforcement of accommodation places

    In parallel with this announcement, the government announces that 10,000 accommodation places should be operational by the end of 2022 and 1,000 additional places should be open in 2023. Social workers are also present in the gendarmeries and police stations in France , numbering 417 and this figure should be increased to 600 in 2025.

    It is essential that all stakeholders around these victims are aware of all these measures, so that women victims of domestic violence know that they will not be alone. concludes Olivia Mons.
