[EN VIDÉO] Atlas, the robot that tidies up the house and does the housework A robot capable of cleaning on demand is undoubtedly the dream of many of us. This is precisely what the Florida Institute for Human and Machine Cognition (IHMC) offers with its Atlas robot. Here he is in action in this video.
Whatever the reason, a loss of mobility can now be reduced thanks to the robotics. The innovation presented by the company by Labrador Systems, INC. during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2022 of Las vegas plays the assistance card. So the robot Domestic Retriever is programmed to easily move heavy objects (11 kg max) or bulky (dishes, household items, shopping, etc.) from one end of the house to the other with little or no effort (you still have to load the robot).
Assistance which, according to its designers, is a real extra pair of hands. ” We launched Labrador because we see a new range ofapps which can meet enormous needs says Mike Dooley, CEO Labrador Systems, INC. To lighten the daily life of people with reduced mobility, the Retriever robot is similar to a sideboard comprising a tray in the upper part and a large storage space in the lower part.
A height adapted to the needs
Able to position itself as close as possible to the user, the Labrador Retriever robot automatically adjusts its height. Thus, the upper plate, initially at 63.5 cm from the ground, can rise up to 96.5 cm. Always with a view to simplifying people’s daily lives, the designers have provided an innovative recovery device. This consists of trays (40 x 30 cm or 43 x 30 cm) and a small refrigerator (optional). Positioned on furniture or shelves, the trays (previously filled) can support a weight of 4.5 kg. An ingenious system that allows the robot to deliver food, medicine… at a predefined time or on command.
Simple and connected use
Equipped with a Tablet or a smart phone, the Retriever robot is easy to pilot via one to one dedicated app. For greater freedom of use, it is also compatible with theconnected speaker Alexa. On this subject, Paul Bernard, director of the Amazon Alexa Fund, said that “ Amazon is proud to support Labrador Systems INC. and the important work being done to help more people live independently “. This robot goes further, with programming, allowing it to perform at a specific time and on one or more stopping points. A routine that allows for example to bring medicine…
A 3D navigation system
To be autonomous, the Labrador Retriever robot benefits from a proprietary navigation system that combines augmented reality with robotics to create a 3D mapping of the House. A technology that allows the robot Labrador Retriever to operate in complex and dynamic environments. Finally, to avoid any obstacles present on its path, this robot is equipped with sensors on all four sides.
After a test phase, which began in February 2021, the Labrador Retriever robot should go into production by the second half of 2023. There remains its cost… after a first monthly payment of 1,499 dollars, it will be necessary to add 36 monthly payments of 149 dollars (i.e. a little less than €6,000 at the current price). It remains to be seen whether this concentrate of technology will cross the Atlantic and become accessible to as many people as possible…
