Dollarstore store in flames suspected arson

During Sunday evening, SOS received an alarm about a fire in a Dollarstore store.

Firefighters arrived at the store shortly after seven o’clock on Sunday evening and began extinguishing the fire.

– There is a fire inside the premises and it is quite large, they are trying to find strategies to access the fire, says David Hedberg from rescue region Mittnorrland to SVT Västerbotten.

E12 was shut down during the night

Work continued throughout the night and parts of E12 were shut down due to the heavy smoke development. But in the morning the traffic was back on.

About 30 people worked to extinguish the fire during the night. But on Monday morning, the store was still in flames.

– We continue to work. We have replaced personnel who are on the scene, but it is still ongoing and we have several units left, says Mats Lundgren, from the Mittnorrland rescue region, on Monday morning to SVT Västerbotten.

The emergency services are trying to extinguish the fire from the inside, but cannot enter the building for safety reasons.

– It is completely destroyed inside, but four walls and the roof are still there. We are waiting for construction expertise to get advice on how to proceed. We will be there most of the day, says Jonas Hallin, rescue manager in Lycksele to SVT Västerbotten.

The police are investigating serious arson

No one has been reported injured in the fire, but police are investigating aggravated arson and inquiries will be held.

During Monday morning, it is possible that the roof of the store will be opened to facilitate the extinguishing work and to see how it looks inside.
