Chad Ramey could hardly have had a better debut at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The 30-year-old, with a PGA Tour victory in his bag from March this year, went the first round in 64 shots – better than anyone else who managed to finish playing before darkness fell over the course and the competition had to be paused.
The bogey-free round featured eight birdies.
— Maybe I made it look easy, but it wasn’t easy. It was fun, to hit a result like this for the first time on such an iconic track like this. You can’t ask for more, he says after the round.
Ramey became a father last week, which may have given him an edge in the game.
— Of course, golf is much less important now, and you never know, maybe that’s why I played better today.
Ramey leads by one stroke over compatriot Collin Morikawa. David Lingmerth is the best Swede in pairs and shared 49th place.
Alex Norén did not have time to finish his round but was on plus four with two holes remaining when play was paused for the evening.
