Norwegian ME runner Karsten Warholm seemed to succumb to a bad mistake in the 400m hurdles semi-final. Warholm’s inside leg missed the side of the fence, which could still lead to further action and possibly disqualification. The SE man of the trip Oskari Mörö considers the situation quite clear.
– Based on the screenshot I’ve seen of the situation, there isn’t much room for posturing. Unfortunately, it seems that the inside leg crosses the fence from the side, and not even from the height of the fence, ‘s MM chat expert guest Mörö commented.
Warholm’s name is still in the first place in the semi-final. He clocked a time of 47.09 and for that he had cleared his way to the final competition. Right after the race, however, many saw the commotion as a clear violation of the rules.
Mörö has similar experience from 2010.
– I myself experienced the same fate at the Youth Olympics in Singapore. I was disqualified for crossing the seventh fence in the wrong way in the final.
Finnish Sports Federation’s competition manager and rules expert Mika Muukka saw Warholm’s situation like this:
– The foot can go outside the fence, but not below the fence line, Muukka summed up.
