Does your vehicle need to pass a technical inspection? Use this free online service from the DGCCRF: it will show you all the centers near you, with their prices. Ideal for saving money!
The technical inspection is an essential formality, although often perceived as painful by the owners of the vehicles concerned. This inspection, compulsory for all light vehicles over four years old and to be renewed every two years, makes it possible to verify compliance with safety and pollution standards.
After a very strong increase in 2018, of more than 12%, the average price of technical inspection has stabilized and only increased by 1.2% in 2023 compared to 2022. According to a study conducted by Simplauto.comthe average price of a technical inspection in 2023 was €79.52 for a petrol or diesel private vehicle, and €86.44 for an electric vehicle.
But this average price actually hides very strong disparities, since the price range goes from €45 to €120, depending on the type of vehicle and the technical inspection centers. Faced with these (large) differences, motorists have every interest in comparing the offers from different establishments, in order to best control their car budget.
With this in mind, the General Directorate for Competition, Consumption and Fraud Repression (DGCCRF), has modernized its comparison of technical inspection centers. This online service, official and free, comes in the form of an easy-to-use interactive map, to quickly compare the prices of different establishments within a given area.
The search can be carried out on a national, departmental or municipal scale, and be refined by type of vehicle (private, 4×4, van, etc.) and engine (diesel, gasoline, hybrid, electric). The corresponding centers are then displayed as points on the map, and simply click on them with the mouse or touch them with your finger to consult the prices of technical inspections.
The comparator interface was also revised in September 2024, in order to be displayed correctly on a computer as well as on a tablet or smartphone. Tariff data is transmitted by the control centers themselves, under the supervision of the DGCCRF, the frequency of updates may therefore vary from one establishment to another. In any case, the last update date is mentioned for each price.
This official comparator of technical inspection centers is therefore a practical and valuable tool for all vehicle owners. By quickly identifying establishments offering the best rates in their geographic area, motorists can save money while ensuring their own safety and that of other road users.
