Could Microsoft bankrupt Sony?

In late 2022, a group of players joined together to file a federal antitrust lawsuit to stop Microsoft from completing its acquisition of Activision Blizzard over antitrust concerns. This court battle still continues today, and the major point of contention in the case is a passage referred to as Appendix K. Acquiring Activision Blizzard is part of a larger plan to bankrupt PlayStation.

Axios GamingThe original passage and internal email shared by Stephen Totilo of . This email was allegedly sent from Booty to Tim Stuart, Microsoft’s chief financial officer for Xbox. Microsoft itself has also confirmed that this evidence is an “internal exchange” and should remain closed to the outside, which is why email is likely to be reworked so heavily.

While this lawsuit isn’t the same case the FTC is currently dealing with, email could potentially strengthen the FTC’s argument that Microsoft’s planned acquisition of PlayStation threatens competition in the industry.

Microsoft’s lawyers said the document had no effect on court decisions.
